A Brand New Year

In a few hours, I will be ushering in a brand new year with six billion people and waving goodbye to 2006 and making resolutions in time for 2007 and making sure I keep up with them. The funny thing about resolutions is that it's easy to make one but hard to stick to one as you need loads of perseverance and willpower to stick to those resolutions which often are made in a jest to make the first day of the new year meaningful but it ends up almost forgotten after a matter of weeks as we tend to revert back to our usual self. I hope the resolutions I make will last me through the entire year. It's difficult but impossible.
Arsenal lost once again to of all teams Sheffield United, a team languishing in the lower part of the table and destined for relegation. The defeat clearly highlights that Arsenal needs their main man, captain Thierry Henry to come back from injury asap and score goals on a regular basis as Arsenal have a hard time finding the back of the net. Their passing is almost flawless and their gameplay is a joy to watch but it all ends up to waste if they don't take their chances in goal. I have mentioned in my previous posts that they need to sign a world class player, at least two to ensure that the team is challenging for honours with Man U and Chelsea. I'm hoping to see some action in the transfer market in the coming weeks when the transfer window open.
I had to break the news to my tuition kid's mum that I couldn't coach her younger son next year as I will be taking heavier modules next semester and I was afraid that I couldn't cope with the assignment. It was a joy to teach the two elder siblings as they were both smart and hardworking and they rarely give me trouble. The family also treated me well by giving refreshments and understood my situation when I couldn't make it on some days as some families would have made a big fuss. Both parents are very nice and not fussy. I guess I was lucky as I had heard horror stories from my other friends complaning of their kids' parents who are demanding and I hope the younger sibling finds a good tutor.
It seems that I couldn't get enough of Godfather as I keep reading the book and watching the movie countless times and being fascinated with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Their acting was flawless and the book was a masterpiece. The first Puzo book I read was the fourth K and I thought that was his best book until I read the Godfather and since then, I believed that his other books which I have not read would not equal the Godfather. Lester told me that it seems that Puzo has not been to Sicily and it's surprising as Puzo wrote about Sicily in great detail in the Godfather. I guess it's another round of Godfather again.

Christmas!!

It's been a long time since I received a Christmas present and that was when I was about 10 years. I remembered that I was very excited about going for the Christmas lunch as I knew that I would receive a present and true enough, I received a present from the host and the present turned out to be checkers which got my attention for two weeks perhaps before it started to collect dust as I was not good at it and I lost interest gradually in a game where I couldn't win most of the time.
I was pleasantly surprised when Lester brought a bag full of presents for the exco meeting and I was touched by his sincerity as he took the trouble to choose the presents and he wrapped the presents all by himself though he requested the help of his maid with the price tag who nicely bungled up the price tag. Lester was shocked when he saw Guanying take out a Paulo Cohelo book which he bought as a Christmas present for her and I was wondering what book he gave me. I was expecting a Jeffrey Archer book as he knew that I love Kane and Abel and he dropped a clue that the book is a classic which everyone should have it.
When I opened the package, I was elated to see the Godfather as I had seen the movie which I was not impressed with but I heard the book was good. I got hooked when I started to read as it was engaging and the book discussed the Godfather's lifestyle and his past in detail which the movie did not and Michael entering the Family buisness. I got to like the movie after reading the book. It was basically the Christmas present as I would definitely read the book again and again as it's an ageless classic.
I also met up with my Army friends over dinner at Marina Bay and the turnout was less than what I had expected and it was nice to see those guys again and catching up with them and their new found lifestlyes. I was surprised to see that the popular restaurant was packed to the brim as the buffet was only 12 dollars and I was not surprised as it was the holiday season and what better way to spend your holidays with a buffet dinner. I was not really excited about the food as I know the same old food will be served and true enough, the same meat were served and the same fried items. It's basically Seoul Garden style except with substandard food and sitting in the open. I believe the 12 dollars buffet was the drawing point for families and my army friends to choose the place but it was definitely not a good place to have a talk as we were pre-occupied with cooking the food and we spent minimal time interacting although I got to know what the other guys were doing and it was good to see some of the jokers as well who made a grand appearance at the last min. The night went well and I returned home early as I was feeling tired..

Random Stuff

I just caught the Arsenal-Porthsmouth game which Arsenal was expected to win although they lacked a few key players considering the fact that they are playing with a small squad this season due to the financial constraint which was due to the building of the new stadium. Arsenal dominated possession and Porthsmouth stunned them with two goals and Arsenal recovered well and hit two back and were trying to find the winner but it proved to be futile as all their attempts at goal did not find the net. It was a hugely entertaining match but I would have loved Arsenal to win the match instead of losing 2 crucial points and falling further behind in the championship race which is shaping up to be a two horse way between the most hated club in England, Chelsea and the once most hated club, Man U and I hope to see a 3 way race although it looks bleak.
I just won the Best speaker for the first time in the history as I had always fell short of the mark but i felt that i hit the mark last thursday. Term it confidence or plain arrogance but I was feeling damn confident of my chances of winning the best speaker and I was glad that I won although I could have done much better at evaluation, another department which needs rapid improvement as I feel i'm bad at judging a speech as I tend to be swayed by emotion when I evaluate and I should let my mind and not my heart decide the course of my evaluation.
Jeffrey and Lester pulled out of the last minute leaving me, Rosy and Esther and we ended up watching the commercials on my computer. I seem to like the Jap songs which Esther sent to me as they are way way better than Mandarin songs I have realised that Esther's crap level seems to be widening as I'm alarmed at the remarkable lame jokes she's making but it's kind of entertaining as I sadly love my friends' bullshit and Rosy is ever entertaining me with her exaggerated facial expressions and interesting truckload of stories.

Movies!!!

I'm a late bloomer as everyone who have read my blog should have realised it by now and the same goes for movies as I tend to be skeptical of my friends' movie choices and tend to change my opinion(sometimes) after I have seen the movie. When Esther asked me to watch Deathnote with her and Jeffrey, I was very wary of her choice as I expected the movie to be another lame Jap movie and the poster with two weirdos didn't help. Chen Hoay told me the gist of the movie and I got pretty interested in the movie. I went to his room to watch the movie as the movie had Chinese subtitles and I needed him to translate for me. Despite the language handicap, my translator was pretty decent and the plot was interesting.
I never expected the detective(L) to be a lollipop sucking, chocalate loving guy with a weird hairdo and scary eyes as his analysis of the crimes commited were simply amazing and he narrowed it down to a suspect-Keira who was the culprit. Keira is this guy who will write the names of criminals or people on a book(the so called deathbook) and the person will die within 40 seconds. I was surprised to see the Angel of Death behaving like a clown and eating apples all the time when I expected him to be more serious and eating dark items like chocalate to suit his image. I will not let in on the rest of the plot as that would be a spoiler for those who have not watched the movie but I will definitely watch Deathnote 2 on the big screen when it's released in late December.
Another movie which I enjoyed watching was Snakes On A Plane. Although the story was stupid with a plane full of poisonous snakes and Samuel L Jackson trying to save the passengers on board, it was hilarious to watch Samuel cursing as the curse scenes looked out of place but he did a decent job for S.O.A.P. I couldn't expect him to save the movie as the plot was predictable and stupid and the snakes looked freaking huge and hyperactive. I read that the fans of this movie wanted the storyline to be tweaked when it was in production as the inital storyline was crappy!! I'm sure the tweaking of the plot did little to enhance its standing at the box office and the movie will have been a massive flop if not for Sam!!

Screwed Up Bio Clock

My exams ended a few days ago and it was such a huge relief as it was a horrible semester taking horrible subjects this semester and I expected sleep to hit me latest by two but I realised that I couldn't fall asleep at two for the past few days due to the wretched exam period where i had to burn the midnight oil on certain occasions and it was irritating not to fall asleep by then. I had to entertain myself by watching MTV and I have to say that they have some good music videos in the wee hours.
Pussycat Dolls, the sultry, sexy, bitchy and hot girl group came up with another music video 'I don't need a man' which is bound to be a hit although I won't rank it alongside Don't Cha. Their sex appeal seem to be working well as they are well-liked (generally, I think) and it seems the lead singer is planning to launch her own album which might be a bad move as she's successful with PCD and the move might not be a good one. Victoria beckham and Geri Halliwell tried but they failed to match their Spice Girls' streak. Beyonce Knowles was successful initally and she is producing mediocre songs. I will rather see 6 hot girls in a video than one hot girl in a video. More eye candy!!!
Another diva who can't seem to stop singing is Madonna with her new single, Jump which is quite catchy but not an instant hit!!i guess being a mother has mellowed her as her choice of clothes seem to be decent..haha and the world is waiting if she were to adopt another baby from another Third world country following in the footsteps on Angie!!!I hope not as that will be plain publicity for Madonna!!!!

Britney Again

In the space of two days, it's remarkable to see me with two posts but hey..i'm Mr Unpredictable and people do get stunned by my eccentric behaviour and shall I say It's partly due to my Gemini horoscope and people out there will be going "Not another horoscope trait entry" Not to worry, I will be touching on the once again single Britney Spears. I just saw a picture of our dear Britney Spears exposing her garmentless bottom and nether region to the entire world in her car. With her was another of our friend, the sultry Paris Hilton.
I can't sympathise with Britney this time as nobody forgets to wear their underwear and if you forgot to wear,Britney, either you are lying or you were spaced out by the booze to even care about wearing underwear or you simply needed the attention after you have dumped K.Fed. The whole world sympathises with you for making a rash and crappy decision to marry K.Fed but don't you think it's time to take a step back and think rationally about your future instead of partying away with of all people, Paris Hilton. Was it Paris Hilton who influenced you to go commando? Good friends will watch out for each other and I'm sure Paris Hilton will be of great help to comfort you.
Paris Hilton could perhaps help you make a home porn movie with the guy you could have picked up at the club if any or better still, you, Paris and Nicole could feature together in the next reality series of The Simple Life. I will like you guys to do a documentary or even a serial on the Rich Lifestyle as that's what interests me and I will rather see you girls drunk and having random sex than see you doing meaningless things like appreciating nature's beauty and the simple things in life as I believe you don't, Paris.
I may be getting a overdose of Britney and Paris over the past few days but it makes for entertaining reading and I hope Britney seeks better publicity to revitalise her rocky career. Are you listening Britney???

Back With A Bang!!!

After a month of non-activity, I'm finally back blogging about my exciting life if you consider fluid mech, soil mech and M.O.M(the modules which I'm taking this semester and M.O.M is not mother for the uninitiated) exciting. This semester has been pretty tough as the modules were much tougher than last semester's modules. I wasn't expecting a walk in the park as I'm a Year 2 student and I should have expected the modules to be tougher than my first year subjects besides the most hated computing module but the pace was crazy especially for M.O.M as the lecturers were rushing to finish the coursework as there were 17(fuck yeah) chapters to be finished in 12 weeks. Half the students in the lecture theatre will either be staring in blank space trying to comprehend the M.O.M concepts or talking to their friends. I don't blame them as the third and last lecturer was hardly engaging and he had to explain the most mind-boggling concepts of the final part of M.O.M. M.O.M is a pre-requisite for Structures 1 and I hope structures 1 is not that hard. Wishful thinking on my part but hope is all that I have got for my next semester's subjects as I heard from my senior and friends that next semester's subjects is going to be pretty heavy.

This semester had been pretty tough for my team, Arsenal as they couldn't string consistent results and the only highlight of their season so far had been their win against arch-rivals Man United but the result did anything to soothe the fans as Arsenal draw or lose at the Emirates stadium when they should be turning it into a fortress where teams will be scared to play against them at their home ground. Some people have said the pitch at the Emirates stadium is much bigger and Arsenal have not gotten used to playing on a bigger playing surface but that excuse cannot be used all the time as these dudes are paid thousands of pounds every week to put on a good show and the playing surface should not be an excuse. I will say the team lacks some big-signings this season and I hope Arsene will bring in a big-signing next season to bolster the squad and start fighting with the likes of Man United and Chelsea for top honours. I'm glad Arsenal is not like Liverpool which is a super dull and unpredictable team.

Although I'm not a big fan of Britney Spears, I'm glad that she did the right thing by dumping the loser K.Fed who was just with her cos he needed the publicity badly for his new album and people will be wondering who is K.Fed when he releases the albulm and the tag of Britney Spears husband will work in his favour.Kevin Federline, stop being an opportunist and try to work hard instead of living off yr wife or shall i say or yr ex-wife. I heard your album sucked and what did you expect? Platinum Status!!!My Foot!! You were worse than Vanilla Ice and Eminem was in a class of his own!! I suggest you either get your act straight or leave the buisness!!Simple as that and don't try to hook another unsuspecting ex-teen sensation again!!

Steve Jobs

A few weeks ago, I saw Lester carrying a library book and being the inquisitive me, I asked him to let me browse through the book and he graciously agreed. On the cover page was a picture of a balding Steve Jobs. For starters, Steve Jobs is the Apple CEO who started Apple and gave the world Ipod and Itunes. I wanted to know more about him as I have little knowledge about him and I have heard stories about him. From the first sentence, I got hooked onto the book and I asked Lester if I could borrow the book. He asked me to return the book. It was not fated for me to borrow the book later on as I couldn't renew the book through the counter.
Being the compulsive shopper, I decided to buy the book as i felt that I needed to have the book and I have not regretted my purchase ever since. The book talks about Steve Jobs childhood on how he was a loner and he wasn't a people person. Steve Jobs was fascinated with electronics when he was young. He went to one of the most expensive college and dropped out soon as he felt he wasn't getting anything out of it. He started a company, Apple with his engineer friend in a garage and their first product, the Apple 1 was a success for a fledgling company. Soon, Apple 2 was a hit and Macintosh arrived with much fanfare and hype but it failed to live up to its predecessor.
Steve Jobs was stripped of executive powers(boardroom politics to cut a long story short) and he left Apple to start a company named NeXT which did not do well and he purchased Pixar and Pixar collaborated with Disney to produce Toy Story which was a smash hit and Pixar went on to produce hit movies. NeXT was purchased by Apple(talk about irony) and Steve Jobs somehow managed to become Apple CEO and he led Apple to greater success and the rest they say is history.
It's very hard not to admire Steve Jobs as he came back from a setback and established himself at Pixar and though he had limited success with NeXT and Pixar was close to closing down, he managed to lead Pixar to greater heights. Very few people have guts as deep as Jobs to quit college and travel to India and start up a company and to start up another company after becoming redundant at his own company and coming back and rewriting history with his first company. I salute you, Steve!!!

Service!!!!

As some of you might know, I recently got a hostel room in Hall 3 and my classmates and friends will be full of envy whenever I tell them that I stay in Hall 3 as Hall 3 is one of the two halls which is new and all the rooms have air-con and the facilities are good and these amenities make the other halls look bad. There's also a downside to living in Hall 3-the canteen. The canteen is like a normal foodcourt and the decor is pretty good and I'm not complaining about these stuff. It's the service at the drink stall(the other stalls are pretty ok) which puts me off and makes me stay away from the canteen.
I love to start my day with breakfast and as Hall 15 canteen(the place I used to have breakfast in Yr1) was a distance away, I went to my Hall canteen to have breakfast on the first day. There will be two aunties at the drink stall, one making drinks and the other making toast. The drink aunty made bad milo and the toast aunty though made good toast was grumpy.I'n not expecting royal service treatment but a simple smile and thank you and no grumpyness!! I tried to persuade my roomate to go to hall 15 but he was used to going to hall 3 canteen.
The aunty once grumpled when i gave her 4 5cents coins and it's not as if I gave her 20 coins of 5 cents. The final straw came when the toast aunty served an old man behind me and I was furious and I told my roomate that we should go to canteen 15. After much persuasion, he relented and we had breakfast the following day at canteen 15. The drink aunty remembered my face and told me that she hasn't seen me around for some time and I told her that I'm staying in hall 3 and I will come to the canteen just for her. She laughed at my suggestion and brightened my day with a huge smile. The milo was tasty and sweet and the toast was good. The service and food made me a satisfied man and has made my resolve stronger by not going to the drink stall in my canteen for breakfast!!

Gosh

Gosh!!!!!It's been a long time since I was off the blogging scene and I suddenly felt the itch to write a post to update my small number of loyal and dedicated readers as i felt they have the right to know what happened to me!! School started last month and I'm startled to discover that four weeks just FLEW and suddenly I'm buried under quizzes, tutorials and assignments!! Therefore, my mind couldn't conjur up of any interesting post as my brain was overfilled with M.O.M, FLUIDS and insane formulas to keep me awake.

On the good side, I managed to get a hostel and I'm glad that I got a hall as the journey from Tampines to Boon Lay is just too insane and my body wasn't used to waking up at six and the real nightmare begins once I reach Boon Lay Interchange as the 179 queue can stretch up all the way to the mrt station. However, Glenn and FLying Dutchman from Class 95 kept me entertained for the 2 hour journey and the journey was bearable.

I guess travelling has made me realise the importance of having a hostel and it has made me appreciate my hostel and my neighbours even more. !!!!!!

Ms Vasantham

I spent my Sunday fruitfully by watching television programmes and catching up on Ms Vasantham, a beauty pagent show where Indian females will vie for the Ms Vasantham show. I was expecting to see only ten Indian females on the show as Indian females tend to be shy and try to avoid the limelight of beauty pagent due to mostly parental disapproval. I was surprised to see more than 40 females on the show and the show format was similar to Singapore Idol where there will be three judges and the contestants have to go through the preliminary stages.
Every beauty pagent has some controversies and this beauty pagent was no different as some contestants who were attired in traditional gear were booted out of the competition and they felt that the judges were too narrow-minded in their choice of attire as they felt the judges prefer the contestants in modern attire. Firstly, I felt that the traditional attired females would not have pulled off the modern look if she had worn a skirt as I strongly feel that Ms Vasantham should be someone who is versatile and comfortable in wearing both traditional and modern clothes and there were some females who wore traditional attire who got to the next round as the judges and I felt that they can carry off the modern look!!
The judges also gave the thumbs down to skinny and big sized contestants and some of the contestants were unhappy with the judges for judging them based on their appearance. I will agree with the judges that some of the contestants are either thin or big sized and the beauty pagent needed meaty contestants. I wouldn't want to watch a beauty pagent where the females are dull and not attractive but I will appreciate if the judges were more direct with their comments and instead give dubious comments as I felt the judges' comments made the contestants feel uncomfortable. It's never easy to dish out constructive criticism especially when it's going to hurt but I hope to see the judges being more direct(yet sensitive) and constructive with their comments!!
I will be looking forward to the next episode of Ms Vasantham to catch up on some eye-candy, humour, elegance and intelligence from the contestants and I hope the contestants will not disaapoint me!!

Booty Shorts and Passion!!

When I was staying in hall last semester, I used to have dinner at my hall canteen on some occasions(bland hall food) and I noticed a number of instances where girls would be wearing booty shorts to the hall canteen. Booty shorts is a word coined by the famous fashion critic, Inspiraci as the shorts cling to the bottom and is way too short. In some instances, I wonder whether these shorts were boxer-shorts. Why should I complain as it provides some eye-candy and a hot topic to catch up on during lunch time? What I do not understand is why do these girls wear the 'boxer shorts' in full public view for the entire world to comment on their bottom, their choice of shorts and their long flowing legs. I have noticed that heads do turn(duh!!) when these booty shorts girls walk confidently and in some instances nonchalently and I wonder where their confidence came from. I'm surprised and glad that girls nowadays are pushing the limits with their head-turning clothes where it seems to reveal more skin than usual. I applaud these girls for daring to be different and being confident in their skimpy attire!!

I have realised that it's very rare to find a lecturer who is very passionate about the subject they are teaching. I have come across numerous lecturers but they have rarely inspired me to take an active interest in my subject except on two occasions. In my first semester, my Econs lecturer entertained me with her sarcastic humour. I didn't miss any Econs lecture of her as I was not bored with her compared to the other subjects where there was a high chance of me dozing off or leaving early. I had the good fortune of being taught quantam physics and optics by a professor last semester. His enthusiasm was so contagious that I felt interested in the topic. I then realised that there are still a few rare gems who will go the extra mile to make the lesson interesting. I hope to encounter a gem in this semester!!

Tall Girls and Handphones

Asian girls are generally short compared to caucasian girls who are very tall(in the region of 180cm-190). I guess it's the Asian genes which dictate the height or it's just that asian girl happen to be short as God felt that Asian girls need not have to be tall. I understand the need for these girls to wear high heels as they feel they are too short and they need an extra 5cm to boost their height and confidence. Those magical heels certainly helps short girls feel like tall girls(I'm not making fun of short girls).
I was shocked to see a tall girl in the MRT in high heel as she was already tall and she was one head taller than me. I guess Asian guys will be daunted by her high-heeled height as we are already short to begin with compared to our caucasian counterparts. There could be a number of reasons why she was in tall heels. She would have felt in love with the heels the moment she saw it and she couldn't resist the purchase. Her boyfriend is very tall and she doesn't want to look like a dwarf next to him. She likes wearing heels as she think she's short. I hope not to encounter another 'Yao Ming' who want to look taller as I do not want to contemplate going through the possible reasons of her choice of footwear as their height already draws attention to themselves.
I also encountered a male in his late twenties who didn't look local blasting music from his handphone. I'm sure a pair of earphones will come with the handphone package and he should have made full use of it instead of subjecting me and my friends to old Hindi songs. My Punjabi friend was irritated and amused with his song collection and I was laughing. I told her that the guy was trying to impress her with his song collection or trying to look cool with with music blasting from his latest handphone and he ruined his chances by tripping when the train jerked. Let's be considerate and stop subjecting those poor fellow commuters to lousy music or trying to impress the girl next to you as she might feel irritated!!!

Denim Shorts!!

I understand that the hot weather is very unforgiving on some days as you will be perspiring profusely like a running tap and you suddenly realise that that your body has more sweat glands than you would have expected and you just wish it will be windy on these hot days. Therefore, I understand the need for a woman to dress down like wearing a spahaggeti top and short denim shorts on these days as they do not want to further perspire if they wear long sleeve shirt and pants. I'm not against women who wear shorts. In fact, I'm for women who wear denim shorts as I understand the plight they will be in if they are in pants. In reality, the sight will inject some eyecandy and heart-stopping moments in a dull monotonous life. I fully support the denim shorts movement where ladies flaunt their long, never-ending and toned legs and it will provide some talking-point for my lunch or dinner session.
On the other hand, this denim shorts movement has made me ask myself why do girls wear these shorts to a freezing school library or even on a rainy day? There are loads of reasons. 1. The weather suddenly turned bad and it started to rain cats and dogs and girls in D.shorts are caught offguard and freeze their legs off. 2. These ladies need a cool respite from the unforgiving weather. 3. It's comfortable as it needs little ironing. 4. I'm in need of male attention.
However, I feel that on rainy days(started raining from 8am), i have seen some girls come to school in short denim shorts and some D.Shorts girls study in the library for a long period wearing a sweater. I don't think the sweater provide the warmth to the legs as well as I'm still freezing in the library with a jacket pulled over me. Ladies, I understand the hot weather and you can definitely prepare in advance if you see dark clouds looming before you are about to leave your home as I do not want to feel sorry for a D.Shorts girl in a freezing library!!

Music Videos, Tamil Actresses and Actors

A goodlooking girl can make any music video look good irregardless of its quality. The highly popular song, 'Stars are blind' sang by our Paris Hilton is anything but unimpressive and not original as her voice is similar to a certain Lindsay Lohan. However, the music video was raunchy as our Paris Hilton played her sex appeal to the maximum effect by wearing skimpy clothes and was on top of the guy(both are clothed by the way if you are thinking otherwise). It was wise of the music producers and Paris Hilton to captialise on the strengths of Paris as she was already a star after the release of her sex video which propelled her to stardom and they knew the music video will be a talking point even if it's not good.

Another music video which I find extremely dumb is Shakira's Whenever Wherever(WW). I thought it will be as good as Hips Don't Lie as Shakira will be shaking wildly to the beat of the song and plunging the entire world into a frenzy who are bent on getting a slice of Shakira after Hips Don't Lie. WW video started off with Shakira rising from the ocean which made my jaw drop(maybe a bit of exaggeration) and she will be dancing wildly. The midriff-baring top and the tight pants Shakira wore and her seductive dance made my heart skip a beat. Shakira may not be very good-looking but she has that sex-appeal(not bordering on sluttiness) which is celebrated by both men and women.
What do Tamil actresses do when their acting career is nearing the end? Act in melodramatic mega tamil serials which can run into the hundreds of episodes. Tamil actresses have a shorter lifespan compared to their male counterparts in the film industry. The actress might be talented and even beautiful but the fickle male tamil fans want a constant supply of goodlooking girls. They will rather see lots of goodlooking girls come through the cinefield instead of one talented and goodlooking girl dominating the scene. I guess guys feel that the actress ages as the days go by. I was surprised to see Meena, a popular Taml actress acting in a serial as I didn't expect her to venture into serials but I guess she's fighting the likes of Asin, Malavika and gang. I guess the actors, no matter how badlooking they are, they can survive in the movie world as it's a male world!!!
Why do some Tamil actors who are worse than the actress manage to act in a film? Some of these actors are producers' or directors' or a big shot's son. That's why you see some undeserving and ugly actors in Tamil movies! I hope this trend will change for the better of the cineworld as there are more deserving and goodlooking and charismatic actors out there and they shouldn't be overlooked by these white horses where their fathers' money and influence gave them a chance at movies!!

Ceasefire!!

If you have been following the news, Israel has not relented on its pursuit of Hezbollah and it is still bombing Southern Lebanon as they deem Lebanon incapable of destroying Hezbollah, the terrorist organisation which has went on the offensive as well, claiming close to 30 Israeli casualties and Israel is taking matters into its own hands after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soliders. Israel felt that they shouldn't negotiate with the terrorist organization which was demanding release of political prisioners in exchange for the release of the 2 captured soliders. I applaud Israel's decision to not to engage in any negotiations with Hezbollah as the negotiations might spark off more demands and kidnappings by Hezbollah in the future if Israel decides to act soft in the crisis which is highly unlikely considering the fact that Israel went through a few major wars with the Arab coalition in the past and even managed to capture some land.
However, Israel's continued pursuit of Hezbollah by bombing Southern Lebanon was a big no-no as lots of Lebanese civilian lives are lost in the war and Israael's recent air raid on a Lebanese town killed almost 50 civilians. Israel feels the need to defend itself from its volatile and unpredictable neighbours but it doesn't need to engage in such warfare which has lead to international outrage(with the exception of America) and its actions has garnered support for Hezbollah in recent weeks from the Arab community in Middle East.
The first thing that needs to be done is to have a ceasefire as more innocent lives could be saved if an immediate ceasefire was issued by America and the UN. It's an open secret that Israel is dependant on America economically and America could flex its muscles but Mr Bush is unable to do that as we all know that the Jewish lobby is very powerful in America and he might lose their support if he decides to act against Israel which feels that a ceasefire will allow Hezbollah to regroup and become stronger.
Secondly, America and UN have to flex their muscles and force Iran and Syria if they can prove to give up their state funding to Hezbollah as any terrorist organization should be condemned and the escalation of the crisis was due to Hezbollah. I believe Hezbollah does not have the capablity to destroy Israel as Israel's technology is far superior(what do you expect when it comes from Uncle Sam) to that of Hezbollah. The major players like UN, the Security Council and of course, our favourite country, America can't do anything much in this crisis as it is very complicated and the crisis can only end if Israel and Hezbollah stop their offensive on each other and America and UN collectively issue a stern warning(which is unlikely) to Israel if they engage in such warfare and also cut off the fiance links with Hezbollah and make both Lebanon and Israel come to the table table to get things sorted out!! At least, issue the Ceasefire..Dammit!!!!!!

Beauty Pagents!!!

This week must have been pretty tough on Ms Singapore Universe who had to endure loads of criticism as well as praise for the evening gown which she wore for the segment which raised a few eyebrows as the attire showed more skin than intended and the blogging community has been pretty harsh on her with stinging comments like slutty directed at her dress. At the same time, there was another controversy involving Ms Japan where the interpreter might have left a crucial interpretation out of his speech which might have affected her chances of winning the crown. Ms Japan is super duper hot and she looks smart though and I felt that she deserved to win the crown based on my assessment of the top ten beauties and my soft spot for asians who are underdogs in beauty competitions as I feel they tend to get overlooked and surprisingly, Ms Japan raised Asia's hopes of winning the competition.
Ms Puerto Rico of course won the competition and you can expect her to do a bit of charity work and do some modelling assignments as part of her job-scope in the following months. Soon, 2006 will pass and we will welcome 2007 and after all the celebration welcoming the new year has died down, we will get back to our usual lives once again and speculate 2007's Ms Universe. Can you remember who won Ms Universe 2 years ago? I even forgot who won the crown last year. Why do we need a competition where we forget the winner once the competition is over? I can furnish anyone about the winners of the Primier League for the last 8 years but I have trouble remembering a past year Ms Universe winner.
Why do we need a beauty pagent? Is it to let the females in the world to know that there are more prettier women out there? Is it to make it more appealing to the male population as the male viewership is more than the female viewership. I feel that such a pagent is unneccesary as only the prettiest ladies from the respective countries compete in this competition and the intelligence level of the contestants can't be gauged with a single question and I don't see the world changing after the pagent is over. The Israelis are still bombing the Lebanese border. The Indonesians are still reeling from the effects of the latest tsunami and the Americans are still not doing anything constructive in the Middle East.
Having a Ms World and Ms Universe is quite bad. I don't see the need for two beauty pagents whose objectives are pretty similiar. I can't be bothered to watch two similar programmes and I will like to see a variety of tv programmes. Of course, the beauty pagents will feature swim suit segments and what's the purpose of these segments? For the judges to grade girls based on the recommended vital stats and for the male population to feast their eyes on the ladies. I hope to see more constructive tv programmes and shows in the near future. Beauty pagents neither increases my I.Q nor makes me an intelligent person. It only provides with more eye-candy which I can get in ample doses by taking a trip down to Orchard Road!!

Ms Universe!!

Ms Singapore Universe
Yesterday's New Paper carried a picture of our Ms Singapore Universe who was wearing an evening gown for one of the segment. I guess contestants could wear any attire for this segment as I saw the Aussie Universe in cowboy gear and the P.Rican Universe(Ms Universe 2006) in a stunning evening gown wear. Ms Singapore Universe was wearing a black long sleeve top which had a slit all the way to her stomach and black shorts.
To be fair, I will have to congratulate Ms Singapore Universe as it takes loads of confidence, courage and nerves of steel to represent our tiny island in an international competition and perhaps educate some of the ignorant contestants about our tiny island. It's not easy for our Ms Singapore Universe not to be fazed by the competition as the contestants are BEAUTIFUL. More importantly, it's not easy for a Singaporean woman to wear a bikini in front of the worldwide audience as it takes tons of courage and confidence.
She looked good in the bikini as you all can see(can be subjective) as it emphasised her figure and I will dare say that she's better than some of the previous Ms Singapore Universe. However, the evening gown segment was a big disappointment as the attire was a bit distasteful. Firstly, I cannot imagine what the guy was thinking when he made the dress for Ms Singapore. Secondly, Ms Singapore Universe told the press that the contestants praised her for being daring with her choice of attire. I guess the contestants were only trying to be nice with their comments as I believe they wouldn't want to be caught in that attire.
I personally feel that Ms Singapore Universe should have either worn a cheongsam, sari or even a baju-karong as these attire would have made her look sexy and yet tasteful. I guess some of the contestants from the other countries would have worn the attire mentioned above and there was a need for Ms Singapore Universe to be unique, I guess.
I guess people are critical of our contestant as she's a representative of our country and we feel she needs to project an image which we feel will give others a favourable impression. I'm sure she has done her best though her choice of attire was disappointing. Let's give credit where it's due and not heap unfair lopsided criticism on her!

Condoleeza Rice!!!!!

It's very rare for a female to be mentioned in the same breath as the American president George Bush and that woman is none other than Condoleeza Rice, the second woman after Madeline Albright to assume the post of Secretary of State, one of the most demanding jobs in the American cabinet as she has to tend to a lot of matters and assume the mantle when the president is not there. I guess George Bush did make one good move by having her in his cabinet as Dr Rice is currently handling the Mid-East crisis well(from the american point of view, she's saying the right things compared to Bush though she cannot halt the kililngs) on the President's behalf who is in the G8 meeting.
My friend once said that Condoleeza Rice writes speeches for George Bush and I won't be surprised if she does. She is a highly smart, capable and motivated woman who always stand by her boss, Mr Bush even when he makes crap speeches and remarks. Dr Rice was once a professor before she went to take a few key roles in the government before she took the role of National Security Advisor.
I suppose Mr Bush must have been so impressed with Condoleeza Rice that Collin Powell resigned/retired(his resignation or retirement seems like a coincidence) to make way(highly likely) for Dr Rice. Dr Rice has not disappointed Mr Bush and has repaid his faith by standing firm by her boss in the Mid-East crisis and Iraq War against Terror and has engaged in hardball politics against some of the so-called axis of evil members like our dear friends, Iran and N.Korea.
On the home front, she has received praises for holding a high post as she's a female as well as brickbats for being slow on the response to the Hurricane Katrina which mainly affected the African-American community and the lack of empathy and attention on the African-American community. I guess being a female politican is not that easy as the word bitch will be readily thrown at her.
The qualities I admire in C.Rice is her unwavering loyalty towards Bush, the confidence in which she delivers her speech, the intelligence at which she answers her opponents and the courage to play hardball with her opponents. Though her pro-Bush stance can sometimes put me off, I guess her qualities override that and I hope she succeeds Bush which is highly unlikely...

A chilling story!!!

I recently had a chat with my friend and we were talking a lot of issues under the sun and at one point of time, we talked about Aids and I was discussing with her the Aids conspiracy and she was exchanging stories with me on the subject and my friend told me a spine-chilling story which made me realise that I need to educate my readers and friends about Aids. My friend told me that she knew of this guy who was wild when he was young and he liked to party a lot.
One day, this guy met a girl at a club(guys go there for girls) and I presume she must be hot as sparks flew and both of them decided to check into a hotel. They proceeded to do the deed(nothing surprising). When the guy woke up the next day, he saw the words- WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF AIDS in red lipstick across the dressing room mirror. I suppose the friend must have been shocked and upset to see the words and will regret for doing something in the spur of the moment.
What the bitch did was wrong as she was a sadistic bitch who wanted people to suffer with her as well and wanted to teach the people a lesson for indulging in casual unprotected sex. I'm disgusted with the bitch for making other people suffer. She could have gone on to educate people about the virus. I can't judge her fully as I myself do not know the circumstances she got Aids but her disgusting method(whether her intentions are good or bad) is severly disapproved. It's bad that she's carrying the virus and it's worse if she knowingly spread the virus.
It teaches the male kingdom to practise safe-sex and not indulge in unprotected sex. My male friend once said that some males think with their ***k and therefore these males won't think of anything rationale except to get laid by the female. I strongly encourage males to carry a condom and if the need arises, they can just use it. It's better to be safe than sorry.
I hope this story will have made you realise the dangers of having unprotected sex and the goodlooking girls(i'm not saying all of them) whom you are eyeing across the dance floor might just have the virus. At least, practise safe sex if you think you cannot control your urges as you do not want to risk ruining your life just because of a night's pleasure!!!

Help!!!!

Can someone please tell Ms Hilton to take a deep breath and consider her options before she tries to do something further stupid? I was shocked to learn that Paris Hilton has just released an album and her number one hit song- Stars are blind is polluting our airwaves. It's playing at every fastfood, pool, restaurant, shopping centre and shops and possibly at every single place where there's a radio.
Paris Hilton is the heiress to the Hiton Hotel properties and she shot to stardom when a sex video of her and ex boyfriend(high chance of the video being made and distributed on purpose by her) was found and uploaded to the internet and people suddenly started talking about Paris Hilton. She has tried her hand at reality series with her buddy Nicole Richie. Simple Life was a horrendous show about two girls used to the riches of life getting accustomed to the simple life by living with families in the country side and it makes the other reality shows look good. I do not understand the producers' reaction to come up with Simple Life 2. I guess Simple Life 1 rided on the success of the increasing male viewers who relished the prospect of feasting their eyes on Nicole and Paris.
Besides the reality series horror, she is courted by some producers or used her charm or sex appeal to act in some movies and I won't be surprised if the Paris movie performs worse than Gigli- the Jennifer Lopez and ex boyfriend Ben Affleck film which was a flop. Paris Hilton is a true survivor and has now ventured into singing. I applaud her courage for willing to put her reputation(does she have one?) on the line once again after being repeatedly criticized by the public.
The first thing Paris needs to do is to hire me as a manager and I will make sure that she flies high. The first thing she has to do is to act in proper films by selecting the proper scripts and ditch her American look for a stylish and sophisticated look. Basically, she has to change her dress sense and not dress like a slut and not attend some crap B-star or C-star parties just to get noticed or get her pictures splashed on the front page. Her short-term stardom will soon wear out and people will forget her unless she does something constructive now. So Paris, Hire me as your manager. Dump your reality series crap and music aspirations and be serious about your future before you regret it!!

Girlfriend

My friends have asked me this question countless times and my readers are curious to know about one aspect of my life which I have guarded like a tiger will protect its cub. Do I have a girlfriend? That's the million dollar question which seems to be on everyone's lips. Nobody has an answer to that as I'm the only one who can come clean on that and not keep my friends and readers in suspense. Haha..My friends have always said that my standards are always sky-high and I should lower down my standards. My standards are not that sky-high and they are not that ridiculous..I'm not expecting a supermodel or a Ms World to fall at my feet or sweep me off my feet with her beauty. I want my readers and friends to know that my expectations are reasonable for a simple man like me.
A girl of Arabic-South American heritage with a Jewish brain and a carefree personality of an Australian with a analytical component of an Indian will be an ideal girl for me. Too much to ask..haha..but in reality, a girl who is smart enough to engage me in intellectual conversations(think of Julia Stiles) is the one I'm seeking for and the girl need not have to be very pretty. If the girl has a great personality and a sense of humour, it will be a bonus. Is a smart and above average girl a sky-high expectation? I don't think so and I do not want to lower down my reasonable expectations to a ridiculous level just to get attached and be loved by someone whom I might not have feelings for as I do not want to cheat the girl and myself and will rather save the trouble for the both of us.
It takes two hands to clap in a relationship. I do not want to go into a relationship for the sake of getting attached as everyone is attached. I don't see the need to be attached at this time as relationships are at the back of my mind and the girls do not interest me at the moment unless something magical happens. If the time comes, it will come. You can't seek love. Love will find you. I have not heard of couples who met a club or at a pub going strong. Do I have a girlfriend? What do you think?

7 Q N A about the opposite sex!!

I hate Sunday afternoons as the tv programmes are boring and it happens to be so hot that you can't resist an afternoon nap and I don't usually go out on Sundays especially in the afternoon. A bright idea hit me after my afternoon nap and I decided to blog about women who always never fail to interest me. I have one million questions about them and I managed to zoom in on the 10 important questions which women and men need to know and I hope my Q and A will be of some insight to men to understand their female counterparts and likewise for the females to understand the complex machinery of a male brain.
1. Q: Why do females always take a longer time to dress up than their male counterparts?
A: Males around the world do not understand why does a female take so long to dress up as males take less than 45 mins(worse case scenarios) to dress up. I guess male grooming is all about wearing the right type of shirt, polishing your shoes(not gilat), shaving and styling the hair. However for females, it involves finding matching ear-rings, bangles, the right top to go along with the jeans or skirt combo and the right bag and the proper shoes. If the dress combo fails, the girl will be subject to stares and eyeballing from their female counterparts. Since the combo takes time, I suggest that females choose their combos the night before to avoid getting their boyfriend irritated for waiting. I hope it helps.
2. Q: Why do females generally like window-shopping?
A: Males have to tag along if their girlfriends go for shopping and even if it means the girl ends up buying nothing. I once heard that guys eat when they are happy and females window-shop to let out steam when they are stressed. Females I believe will envisage themselves in the clothes that they see in the clothes rack but the prices sometimes will put my female counterparts off. Another way to let off steam is by surfing online clothes catalogue and in that manner, females can spend quality time with their boyfriends in the future.
3. Q: Why do females have so many bags and accessories?
A: Each skirt, top, bangle, wristband and hairband are part of a combo and the combo will only be perfect if there are all the necessary accessories.
4. Q: Why do females love to talk for long hours?
A: Females love to gossip and their only connection with their female counterparts is gossip. If two females get together, gossip will certainly be on the menu and the more friends they have, the more the gossip and the longer the hours spent on the telephone. Females I believe do indulge in engage in intellectual conversations but that instances are very rare.
5. Q: Why do some females seek the I love you confirmation?
A: I read a Elton book and I realised that some females are very insecure in the first few months of the relationship and they need a confirmation of the love they seek by asking Do you love me? How much do you love me? questions to put their insecure mind at ease.
6. Q: Why do guys look at other girls even when they have girlfriends?
A: Females check out guys as well and I believe guys qualify for the privilege of looking at girls. It's eye-candy and it's free and I certainly don't want to miss anything controversial as my female counterparts want me to envy their clothes. Guys are not unfaithful if they check out other females and they are only unfaithful if they sleep around or double-time other females and the guy deserve a slap if he does either one of the stuff.
7. Q: Why are some guys obsessed with ass and breasts?
A: I once asked my army mate this question and he told me that the male kingdom is always curious about the female assests and the two assests are the only assests which defines a female and often stands out and therefore, our eyes unknowingly will fall upon those two areas. You can't blame a guy for casting or glancing at them if the female assests happen to be displayed openly or they appear to stand out. I have notices some females check out other females from head to toe and it's quite scary!!
Therefore, I hope my Q and A is not biased towards any sex group and it helps to clear up the mysteries of both sex and the misunderstandings. I welcome constructive criticism on my Q and A!!

Do We Care?

Anwar Ibrahim was Malaysia's number two man after Mahathir when I was in Secondary 2 and he was a smart and educated man. He was well-loved by his foreign counterparts and Malaysians(some of them la) and seemed to be heading for the prime minister post at that time. Suddenly, a scandal involving his driver who supposedly had anal sex with Anwar where homosexuality was frowned upon in Malaysia took the country and region by storm and there were tons of papers dedicated to the Anwar Ibrahim scandal and my fellow Singaporeans and I were treated to daily footage of the Ibrahim scandal everyday on . He was removed from his job and thrown into jail.
In the following weeks, Dr Mahathir was critical of Anwar Ibrahim and felt that he doesn't deserve to be in the running for P.M and Anwar Ibrahim spotted a black eye as a result of a possible horrid time in prison when he was under arrest. Sympathy poured in for Anwar who seemed to be having a difficult time in prison and a fair trial was called for by international diplomats and organisations.
He was sentenced to a few years of jail time and during his prison time, his wife was actively involved in politics as I feel she wanted the Malaysian public to realise that her husband was a good man who was subject to unfair treatment and he was a victim of a government conspiracy ..
Hahaaaaa. That's right. Conspiracies. I love conspiracies.. The bigger the better but the irritating thing about conspiracy is that there is no fixed truth but multiple possiblities. It can be a bit irritating but it makes for some exciting dinner conversations. The marilyn monroe suicide will forever remain a mystery and there can be countless possiblities on the Jack the Ripper and JFk murder could have million of supects but we love conspiracies. I love conspiracies. No conspiracies makes the world very dull.

What's Wrong?

Jack Sparrow: The sea monster stole my show!!
Don't expect too much from a sequel from a good movie as it will always disappoint you. The sequel does not live up to its original movie. What's wrong with sequels? Why are most of them flops? Are expectations always sky high due to the fact that the first one was a hit? . I saw Matrix 1 two years after its release(i'm a late bloomer) and it was bloody good. The entire plot was awesome and the casting was marvellous as the cast knew its role and the action scenes were edge of the seat quality. I then waited eargerly for the release of Matrix 2 and caught it on the big screen 2 years back. I was disappointed to find that the movie's plot was confusing and some scenes were pointless as it does not add value to the movie. It was a horrible movie in short and I didn't bother watching Matrix 3.

I recently caught Pirates Of The Carribean 2(POTC2) some time back on the big screen. POTC1 was a huge success as the plot was simple and Johnny Depp excelled in his pirate role and his humour and crankiness was top class and his unpredictability was a bonus. POTC2 had the same theme but the plot was a bit too cheem as there were numerous sub-plots and they didn't connect. It's only pirates for goodness and not a movie about chemists or physicts. A sea monster has also got to be roped in as well to add flair to the movie. I can't believe the director got to stoop to such a low level. The sea monster was crapppppp.

However, not all hope was lost as J.D once again saved the day with his top-class cranky, unpredictable, hilarious and weird style. I still don't understand why a pirate needs a hat when he needs a parrot but it was still funny watching J.D giving a smug look for every single scene. I'm not waiting for POTC3 though as I feel it might fare worse than POTC2 but I hope it will buck the trend which looks to be impossible after the outing of POTC2.

Worries!!!!!!

I once saw my friend who seemed to be in deep thought some time back and I asked him what was he thinking about? One thing I have learnt in my 22 years of life is even if the face brings itself to lie, the eyes will never lie. My friend said that he was thinking of the huge workload awaiting him on monday morning when he goes back to work and that was a cause for concern for him. My friends and I told him to take it easy and enjoy the weekend till he went to work on monday. I guess worrying is part of human nature.

No human can escape from this disease-worrying. Mothers worry about their children's safety. Children worry about their parents. Parents worry about their employers. Employers worry about their buisnesses. Students worry about their studies. Worry knows no age. It's very easy to dish out words of advice like not to worry and the preacher himself have difficulty following what he says. Most of the times, it's true.

I used to dislike Sundays years ago as the next day was schoolday and it was a day where I would constantly worry about the following day which would be monday blues thinking of the glorious weekend which I had just enjoyed and looking forward to Friday and hoping times flies as fast as possible when it was Monday. It was worse when I went to army as I had to go to my unit on Sunday night and it was one of the shittiest Sundays of my 2 years as I was constantly worrying about going back to my unit as I hated the dull and monotonous lifestyle which will await me. I used to envy my friends who went to their unit on Monday. Once, I was done with my national service, my sundays have improved tremendously.

However, that does not mean that I have stopped worrying at all. My worrying has taken on a new dimension in the form of exams, quizzes and deadlines. The only thing we can do is hope for the best and live for the day. This might perhaps improve our worry levels.

The Libertine!!!

As readers will know by now, I'm usually a laggard in terms of people and infomation(think of Shakira) and once I fully get to know them, I will get obsessed with it. An example will be author Ben Elton whom I have not heard of in my entire life except for the popular authors like Agatha Christie, John Grisham and Jeffrey Archer and when one of my friends, Lester borrowed an Elton book, I borrowed one myself and I was not one bit disappointed. Elton's style mixes sarcasm with suspense and his mockery of social norms just makes for a good read. I will dare to say that he's better than Dan Brown or Sidney Sheldon as he uses unusual characters and incorporates interesting plots in his books. These elements endeared me immediately to his books and I was transformed into a loyal Elton fan. Once I had devoured the first book of Elton, I soon got hungry for more and had finished reading 4 books and gunning for more.
Another late guy I came to know was Johnny Depp late in 2003 when my army friend asked me to watch Pirates of the Carribean and I was sceptical of the movie as I felt that it will bore me but the movie was interesting and Johnny Depp was the star of the show. After watching a few J.D's movies, I was pretty impressed with him who dares to take on unusual roles and somehow looks good in those roles. I was anticipating his new movie, The Libertine which I first saw the trailer when I went to watch Brokeback in March and I soon fell in love with the movie.
Megan and I were eagerly anticipating the release of The Libertine and I started to sense something was amiss when I didn't hear any news of The Libertine which was suppossed to be shown in June. I checked up Wikipedia and I realised that the movie was actually released in the USA some months back and it grossed only 4 million. I guess cinemas are afraid to buy the rights to the film and Megan told me that being an art film, it could possibly be screened here. I can only hope for the best though as it will be a waste to watch a J.D movie on television!!

Scandals!!

Everybody loves a scandal. Who doesn't? At least I do. I do not want my newspaper to be filled with stories of the rich, government, good people, samaritians, health tips and food tips all the time. I simply love to read scandals as it makes for a good newspaper read and a good dinner conversation. I'm sure our dinner conversations are not always on intellectual topics and it can go into pointless arguments and gossip. I would like to alert my readers to a recent scandal that is taking place in Italy at the moment.

People around the world should know by now that Italy will be challenging for the biggest prize in football this coming sunday and at the same time, Italy's football league, Serie A is being plagued by match-fixing allegations. Some of the teams involved are AC Milan and Juventus, Italy's two top clubs and whom have won numerous honours. The prosecutor is demanding for these teams to be demoted to Serie C, two rungs below Serie A and docked points. Slashing off points might seem harsh but it's actually a slap in the wrist when you consider these two clubs competing in another league which they don't belong to and the financial losses will be pretty tremendous.

If these two teams get relegated to a lower league, I cannot fanthom the reaction as the respective club presidents probably will be furious and the fans angry and the players planning a move to Barcerlona or Real Madrid. I can't imagine Kaka or Nedved staying on with their clubs. It seems the match fixing scandal has been an open secret and I'm not one bit surprised. Though I hope to see justice served, I hope the judge will go easy on these clubs as Serie A will be less interesting without the top clubs!!

Once Again!!

Once again, I can't stop blogging about the ongoing World Cup which just saw two casualties crash out of the running for football's greatest prize-Portugal and Germany. I had expected Germany to win the cup as they had dumped their boring style of play for an entertaining and pulsating style but fate was not in their favour when they got dumped by a defensive minded Italy who deserved to be in the finals. I had supported Portugal as it was the underdog against France and it hasn't won a world cup in its previous World Cup adventures. It will have been nice to see Portugal to lift the cup but the team was destined not to see the finals.

It's down to 2 teams-France and Italy. Both teams who were not mentioned in the same breath as Brazil, Argentina, Spain or even Germany are suddenly in the limelight. Who would have expected 30 year old veterens to lead France to a World Cup Final or a scandal plagued Italy to reach the finals? I guess the footballing gods must have been sick to see Brazil lift the World cup for the record time and decided to let other team take the honours this year. I for one need some team besides brazil to lift the boys. No disrespect to the samba boys. They play an entertaining brand of football with a huge talent at their disposal but they just didn't deliver the goods on the big stage and their golden boy, Ronaldinho failed to live up to his reputation as the world's best footballer.

I have also realised that the teams I support for the particular matches(not all of them la) seem destined to lose. England,Holland,Portugal,Argentina and Germany. I really hope Italy will win and if they happen to lose this time, it's not my fault!!!The football gods feel that Italy is not destined to lift the cup.

Vitagen!!!

What does Vitagen and boobs have in common? The more you drink Vitagen, the larger the bust increases. Is Vitagen essential for a healthy bust or does Vitagen activate the female hormones? I was thinking of a suitable answer as I saw Felicia Chin, the Channel Eight actress in a low cut dress flaunting her assests(suspect) and holding a vitagen bottle if i'm not wrong as I was distracted by Felicia.
Who cares about the Vitagen which is so minute compared to Felicia and who can blame them? I guess Vitagen must have needed health conscious females to start buying their products or husbands to get Vitagen for their loved ones to enhance their assests. I enjoyed looking at the ad as it was captivating and I didn't know that health drinks needed a touch of sex to help it sell. I guess products today need a bit of sex to help it sell but health drinks needing a dose of boobs! Soon, we will have Britney Spears in figure hugging maternity outfit advertising for baby products or even an almost nude Britney with the stomach protruding and the baby milk in the background.
I'm neither obsessed with Britney nor with captivating ads. I'm just curious why health drinks need a well-endowed female to help it market itself. I'm not complaining as it's eye candy for me but I absolutely need some answers for my litle brain to fill me in on certain key issues like the Felicia Chin ads!!!Perhaps, I can understand the reasoning behind the advertisment and further appreciate the product and the advertisment.

Hello Kitty

It sounds strange to my loyal readers who can be easily counted to know that I thought of Hello Kitty once I woke up. I guess it's the dream which I had but I can't seem to recall the dream. As all Singaporeans will know, Hello Kitty is this ugly(pardon me if i'm too blunt) soft toy which comes with a free macdonalds meal(I think). Macdonalds apparently should made a lot of money as Singaporeans went all the way to lay their hands on this toy back in 2000.
When Hello Kitty was first introduced, it took Singapore by storm and proved to be a massive hit. Soon, Singaporeans started to queue at Macdonalds before 4am and waited patiently once the stores were open. I get my daily dose of Hello kitty informtion via the news. Some Singaporeans in true Singaporean style cut the queue and fights erupted over this soft toy. Maids will queue up patiently to get the hello kitty under the instructions of little princesses or their madams who want to give their whiny princess a limited edition of a Hello Kitty I got a shock when I first saw the queue while I was on the bus to school. The queue stretched for 300m outside the macdonalds outlet!!
The obsession died as soon as it began as Macdonalds came up with a better way to manage the crowds and the limited edition of Hello Kitty. Once Macdonald has exhausted all possible ways of coming up with new editions of Hello Kitty, the nation went back to its usual livestyle. It was interesting to note this nation was once obessesed with a ugly soft toy and I'm glad that I had the senses not to buy the soft toy..

W.A.G.S

I believe everyone should have known by now that England was booted out by Portugal in the World Cup Quarter Finals stage and Rooney was sent off in the second off for pushing his club mate Christiano Ronaldo of Portugal and England played a senseless and ineffective 4-5-1 formation. This English team had the best chance of winning the World Cup since 1966 and they screwed it up big time by employing a stupid formation and making the mistake of hiring Erickson.
I have nothing in particular against Erickson. His managerial club credentials are good and that's the reason why England offered him a multi-million pound deal to coach the team. I would say that Erickson lost control of his team and has bowed to team pressure as he persistently stuck with David Beckham who was ineffective save for his setpieces and he should have been bold enough to use Aaron Lennon.
Lately, the public are more accustomed to seeing the W.A.G.S(wifes and girlfriends) of the English team strutting their stuff and partying their hearts out and shopping till their husbands' credit limit goes bust. The public was fed with news on the W.A.G.S and we nearly forgot about the English team when we see the W.A.G.S. I won' t say that these clowns are to blame as the English team should have been more professional but the attention has been on the wrong issue all the time. Unless the English team gets itself more organised and not let the W.A.G.S take centre-stage and not be arrogant just because the EPL happens to be the most entertaining league but not the England national team, I can't see England lifting the World Cup. I hope this will be a wake-up call to England!

Arrogance

The English have qualified for the World Cup Quarter Finals and are due to play Portugal in two hours and expectations are running high in the English camp as some of Portugal's key players are either suspended or injured. I'm sure David Beckham and company will relish the prospect of slaying a severly depleted Portugal team with his trademark crosses. However, I do not like the way some of the English fans are behaving in Germany.

It smacks one of arrogance and the belief that they are a big football team capable of grinding the results. Their supporters are a disgrace as some of them taunt their German hosts with world war two chants and that's cheap shot by a nation which invented soccer, cricket and English and they have also invented another product- a arrogant bunch of people who still bask in the glory of their history.

Although I support England, I want Portugal to teach them a lesson today and come back to reality and start getting back to the drawing board under a new coach and start winning matches with style instead of boring and dull play. That will certainly help English football as they need some reality check!! Go Portugal!!!!!!!

Erickson

What's wrong with Erickson? For someone who's paid more than 4 million pounds a year, he's capable of better management and tactics. For starters, he's the first non-Englishman to coach the England side(kind of an irony for a country who invented soccer) since 2000 and he has been in the news for the wrong reasons as he couldn't control his roving eyes and hands and indulge in affairs with a Bangladeshi woman who happens to work in the English Football Association.
Yesterday's match against Ecadour was pathatic as England struggled to find rhythm as they were playing in a unfamiliar 4-5-1 formation and Rooney, a support striker was playing as an all and out striker. Any manager in the world will know that Rooney cannot play in the position and the World Cup offers no luxuries of testing out formations when teams should have done that months ago. England for all their talent scored only 1 goal courtesy of David Beckham from a classic free-kick
The only highlight of the match was the camera zooming in on Victoria who was estatic after her hubby scored. I had rather see Victoria jumping up and down than see the team which I support play like crap. Their only salvation lies in the quarter finals and I doubt they will get past the quarters unless they can conjur up something remarkable. God Save the English!!

Iraqqqq!!!!!!

I just realised that I haven't been blogging about politics for some time as I was busy putting up and dedicating videos of hot women. Both women and men have certainly feasted their eyes on the music videos and have throughly appreciated it. You can't stop checking out Beyonce or Shakira from head to toe or try to get the music videos out of your head. However, my dear readers and loyal friends need to know that I'm a man of balance and I seek a right mix of serious and fun issues. I hope i don't sound sophisticated and if i do, I'm sorry about that. Talking about sophisticated issues, I would like to give my two cents worth of opinion on the Iraq issue as it seems a bit complicated and I would like to tell my version of the Iraq story

Not again. I have read the opinion columns, editors' column, internet listings, magazines and I'm sick of the issue as some of you all might feel but the Iraq issue is indeed a very interesting topic. For those of you guys who are not sure what i'm talking about, it's the invasion of Iraq by America. Mr George Bush, the American president felt that Iraq was building weapons of mass destruction or had weapons of mass destruction(WMD) capable of destroying the world and he was concerned for the safety of Israel, America and the world as he felt that Saddam Hussein was capable of using these weapons of mass destruction to destroy the world.

Saddam Hussein was the notorious guy who invaded Kuwait in 1991 and was guilty of gassing the Kurds and Mr Bush felt that Saddam was capable of more ruthless stuff if he can do such heinous stuff earlier in his power. We can say that the US attack was a preempt attack to prevent Saddam Hussein from using WMD. The no 1 question is why will America attack Iraq.

Firstly, we should never totally believe politicians as they are political people(pardon the lameness) and they can't be expected to furnish the public with the complete truth. In 1991, America helped Kuwait to overcome the Iraq invaders and Desert Storm was a victory for America. If Kuwait was a land of sand and no worth, I doubt America will have entered the 1991 war. Kuwait is a oil-rich country and America had to gain a lot if Kuwait was under their control instead of our friend, Saddam Hussein. I disagree with Bush to a certain extent that the main reason for attacking Iraq was that they had WMD and they had to stop the misuse of it and I personally feel it was one of the lesser reasons. In that case, America should have attacked our troublesome friends, North Korea and Iran as they are also capable of launching their WMD and their leaders are quite unpredictable as well.
Secondly, America seems to want a regime change in Iraq as Saddam is a dictator and has been ruthless and so America is doing the Iraqis a favour. If America really wants to play good brother, they should have assisted in changing the regimes of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan(military regime) and many more corrupt regimes but instead they chose not to as these regimes were favourable to them. I won't totally agree that Mr George Bush was a liberator of Iraq.
The reason why America attacked Iraq is simple-it was the oil. I know you guys will be thinking..duhhh..I will like to explain the explanation behind the America attack based on the oil concept. America consumes 20 million barrels of oil a day and they have a reserves of 20 billion barrels of oil and if there was a war and the oil production/exports were to stop, the reserves will last America for maximum 3 years. America has the Saudi and Kuwait oil to meet part of the demand but America still need to meet its daily demand and the next oil rich country is Iraq and our dear Saddam is not kind and friendly enough to sell oil and America knows that if they can't confirm the supply of Iraqi oil, they are in deep shit and they can't continue to use their reserve oil as it's saved for a rainy day considering the fact that America has made more enemies than friends these days.
This oil reason clearly shows that our friend Bush should not be totally trusted to deliver the truth and America has a lot to gain as the military expenditures and losses are incomparable to the massive economic gains they will later gain Regime change and WMD were also part of why America wanted to attack Iraq. America has and always will enter a war or poke its nose if it has something to gain. Personally, i'm divided over the oil issue as i would not know what I would have done if I were in Mr Bush's shoes.

Gambling!!

I love money. In fact, everybody loves money.Nobody can resist the lure of money. Who doesn't? Everybody will love to make a quick buck or two and with the ongoing World Cup, people will be tempted to place a bet. The World Cup betting is said to run into billions of dollars. As i was reading the New Paper today, I noticed a number of gambling hotlines which supposedly offers top gambling tips(to the tune of 50 dollars a call or $2 a min) from the soccer experts and in some ads gives statistics on the results which they have predicted correctly.
If it was that easy to make money by listening to the expert's advice, why don't these fellows have to share their so-called secrets? They might as well keep their secrets to themselves and make good money. They know that there are gamblers who will do anything to make a quick buck and by listening to these experts, gamblers receive an assurance of the bets they place and the sums placed can run into thousands. Gambling has never made a person rich. From the stories I read and hear, people go into debts and the only people who gamble freely without any worries are the rich people. It's very difficult to stay away from gambling once you get hooked onto it and especially when you incur heavy losses and try to recoup those losses.
The only thing the guys who set up the soccer hotline are interested in is your money. They are providing a service and they expect a return on their service where you have to part ways with your money to pay for the 'expert's' advice. Naturally, you will want to place a bet after making that expensive call to recoup your money and also to make a quick buck.
I'm not asking everyone to stay away from placing small harmless bets in the name of fun. I just hope people will be wise(I hope so) and know their limits. I might place a bet or two just for the fun of it in the coming World Cup.

Second Day in Bangkok

The second day was no different from the first except that there were more interesting characters and places we met and went to. I'm usually an early bird in foreign places and I was awake at 6am. I thought the time was 5am when i woke up but I received a shcok when I saw the time. I didn't want to disturb the two survivors and proceeded to have a slow bath in the bathtub(make use of the opportunity while you can). We proceeded to have our breakfast. I saw first light only at 7.30am(no joke)

The hotel breakfast buffet was the best highlight of our trip as it was worth our money and it was certainly beyond expectations for a 3 star hotel. There was a pastry section with 10 different pastries and a section for fried food(fried rice, mee goreng, french toast,bacon..) and there is actually a cereal section with six 6 different cereals. We shamelessly helped ourselves to the buffet but we were decent enough not to overfill our plates as some of our Singaporean buddies did.

We then proceeded to look at the shops as I couldn't believe the fact that the shops open after 10 and I bought a toothbrush(I forgot to bring this essential item of all things) at 7-11 before heading back to our hotel room to rest. I couldn't get the hell out of our hotel room as I felt that we should hit the shopping centres instead of lazing around. We hit Siam Square which was like another Paragon which had boutiques and the prices were sky-high. We were not expecting MBK prices for expensive labels and we proceeded to MBK and I did some shopping and I began to bargain shamelessly as I felt that the prices were not justifed as they were jacked up. The Thais were decked in yellow shirts as they were celebrating their King's birthday and it was kind of nice to witness that.

I pissed off quite a few sales people particularly the crystal lady whom I thought will sell me the crystal figurine at 100 baht but told me it's for 130 baht and I walked out of the shop as I felt that we agreed for 100 baht and I refused to stare in her direction as she was staring hard at me. There was also the sunglasses lady who refused to sell the sunglass lesser by 10 baht and I didn't buy and I realised that it was pointless to bargain for 50 Singaporean cents when I should be bargaining for a few Singapore dollars. The shops in MBK were basically selling the same shirts and shorts and there was no much of a difference.

I got a tattoo(a temporary one) and the tattoist looked scary and entertained us with his guitar while we were waiting for my tattoo to dry which took 30 mins. The best part was after taking a photo with him, I forgot to pay him for the tatoo. My short term memory is absolutely bad and we had lunch at a Long John style restaurant(can't remember the name of the restaraunt) which was bad before we went to hit the other shopping centres.
We did serious window-shopping and ended up buying nothing at these stores and I bought 'Freakonomics' from one of the bookstore as I finished my Ben Elton's past mortem thanks to Lester's recommendation though I didn't get past the first few pages. We later searched high and low for a barber for 30 mins as my hair was getting longer and Megan also needed a haircut. We finally found a massage centre-cum barber(what the hell) and I had a hard time explaning to the hairdresser before her supervisor kind of understood my English and it was a decent haircut. We then went back to laze around in our hotel and the two survivors had to convince Sara to eat at a roadside stall as he was cautious of the food. I regretted buying chicken rice as I didn't like it but there was no complains as the prices were damn cheap. However, we witnessed two children playing with a cardboard box when our Singaporean kids will be playing with their Gameboys and playstations and I wondered if they could ever break from their cycle of poverty and the answer saddenned me.
We then hit the famous Suan Lam night market which was huge and I was again back to what I was doing-bargaining till I got a good deal for my money. I pissed off a lady who agreed to sell a pair of boxers from 250(rip-off) to 100 and managed to get 2 for 160 and she wasn't happy with the deal as she wasn't getting a huge profit from me and I managed to get a good waist pouch for a reasonable price and the survivors were clearly unhappy with me for spending too much time at shops bargaining when I felt that if we don't bargain, we will get a bad deal. When we were about to go,I saw lots of people crowding around a big screen and I realised that it was the world cup opening match. We took a cab which didn't go by its meter and we watched the world cup at our hotel room. It was a pretty interesting match and the best moment was when thomas frings scored an outstanding goal from outside the box and the final score was 4-2 in favour of Germany.
We retired early and looked forward to our trip to Chatuchak the next day.
3rd Day-To Be Continued....

First Day in Bangkok

It's been a few days since I came back from my Bangkok trip and I feel nostalgic about my Bangkok trip. To sum it up, it was good fun and excitement spread over the 4 days with numerous characters and events never failing to entertain us. I began my research on Bangkok once the travel dates was confirmed. Scrolling through the web pages about Bangkok made me even more excited about going to Bangkok and the day finally came after 3 weeks of wait. The 3 survivors going to the trip were Megan, Sara and me.
Megan and I reached the airport earlier than expected at 11am as I guess we couldn't wait to check-in and get on the plane to Bangkok. We got a shock when we learnt our third and final survivor, Sara was in the airport as we expected him to come late as usual as I can't remember the last time he was punctual. I received a bigger shock when I saw that his bag was bulky and I asked him to weigh his bag and the bag weighed a grand total of 7 kilos after telling him to bring minimal stuff the day before as we would be doing shopping over there. The tag '7 kilo Saravanan' got stuck to him for the entire trip. After Meenatchi and Anbu send us off, we did wingdow-shopping before getting onto the plane.
It was a long time since i got onto a plane and I requested for the window seat. The view from the plane is simply breath-taking and you can never get sick of having an eagle-view of our tiny island unless you are flying week in week out. More trouble were to come as Megan got into an uncomfortable sitting position when an Indian expat sitting in front of him began to recline his seat all the way to the back and the other two survivors were having a laugh at his expense. The Cathay Pacific air stewardess were pretty average as I was not expecting SIA standards and our lunch was served half and hour before landing and I had to rush my lunch. A pity that I had to rush through my Haggen daz Ice cream..
More trouble were to follow as people warned me to shave off my beard before leaving for Bangkok as the custom checks are very rigorous nowadays. As usual, I wanted to test the system and it was not my beard but the arrival/departure card which got me into trouble as the staff over there refused to chop my passport until I have filled my form completely. I made a grand total of 3 trips to the lady before I went to the other counter as I was pissed. After clearing customs(which was a breeze), we went to search for our travel agent.
This travel agent deserves a mention in my blog. He was one of the highlights of our trip and the survivors named him 'Smiling Prince' as he was always smiling and he tried to encourage us to buying 600 baht tickets to the tiger show. I realised that it was too hefty and he was going to earn a big fat commission from us. As Danny put it, everybody in Bangkok is a professional and they will earn commission one way or another and I'm not going to let him earn commission off us. Our van came a hour late and Smiling Prince somehow managed a wry smile in the midst of his panic mode.
There were two other passengers on the van as well. Megan named them R and J(Romeo and Juilet) as they were hilarious on the last day. While we were all in the van, R and J were talking about going to a temple to get 4D numbers and Megan understood them as he could understand simple mandarin phrases and words. We were just surprised that people do such nonsensical things in this age but I guess greed knows no limits.
After an hour on the road, we reached our hotel and Smiling Prince tried to push his luck with massage thinking that he can earn some commission finally but we disappointed him yet again. When we went into our hotel room, I received a pleasant shock. There was a bathtub,a proper tv with decent channels, 2 sofas and 2 proper beds and a spare bed and a window finally. The Malaysian hotel which we stayed in last year was a disaster and the facilities were atrocious! We began to laze around in the hotel room before going to Mah Broon Kong(MBK).
MBK is one of the biggest shopping centres in Bangkok and you need at least a day to go through all the shops. We had a proper meal at a restarant and the finale dish was a currypuff pizza which was unique and good. We tucked in to some Dunkin Donuts(awesome) before going for a massage.
The Thai traditional massage is very good and I almost fell asleep as it was that good. It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip as it was relaxing and it was worth the money. I will definitely recommend the Thai massage to anyone going to Bangkok.

THE SUN!!!!!!!

I love the British. Not very much but more than the Americans. They gave the world Beetles, Craig David and Blue. They have created/invented numerous sports(cricket, soccer and the list goes on) and gave the world a Beautiful language -English which has certainly bridged gaps and ensured Singaporeans could still be understood by our Western friends but our Western friends are still baffled by our Singlish and have difficulties coming to terms with it. I definitely have problems understanding the English Lingo and slang as the phrases are not exactly you come across in a English dictionary. As much as I love them, I also hate their arrogance and their colonisim where they have benefitted from their conquests.
I just came back from Bangkok yesterday(will do the updating very soon) and I bought the Sun paper from Bangkok aiport bookstore. I just wanted to check out if the English tabloid was really that notorious for its nonsensical and rubbish stories and its clinical dissection of celebrites' lives and it lived up to its billing. The usual page 3 bullshit which features topless models(i don't fancy English models) and crappy stories dominated the Sun.
I guess the newspaper satisfies their readers' lust for juciy stories and anything that involves sex, murder and celebs are certain to make it to the Sun. These are sadly the trademarks of possibly the best selling paper in the world. Readers sadly do not want to hear about mother theresas of the world dedicating their lives to voluteerism and instead they will rather see the Parises, Nicoles and Jessica Simpsons partying away in some of the many high-profile events and it will certainly be a treat for male readers to see their pictures of scantily clad famous celebs and showing off their real and fake assets. I do want my ideal newspaper to have a bit of gossip and serious issues but I guess that's ideal of me to ask for a ideal newspaper!!
