Everybody loves a scandal. Who doesn't? At least I do. I do not want my newspaper to be filled with stories of the rich, government, good people, samaritians, health tips and food tips all the time. I simply love to read scandals as it makes for a good newspaper read and a good dinner conversation. I'm sure our dinner conversations are not always on intellectual topics and it can go into pointless arguments and gossip. I would like to alert my readers to a recent scandal that is taking place in Italy at the moment.
People around the world should know by now that Italy will be challenging for the biggest prize in football this coming sunday and at the same time, Italy's football league, Serie A is being plagued by match-fixing allegations. Some of the teams involved are AC Milan and Juventus, Italy's two top clubs and whom have won numerous honours. The prosecutor is demanding for these teams to be demoted to Serie C, two rungs below Serie A and docked points. Slashing off points might seem harsh but it's actually a slap in the wrist when you consider these two clubs competing in another league which they don't belong to and the financial losses will be pretty tremendous.
If these two teams get relegated to a lower league, I cannot fanthom the reaction as the respective club presidents probably will be furious and the fans angry and the players planning a move to Barcerlona or Real Madrid. I can't imagine Kaka or Nedved staying on with their clubs. It seems the match fixing scandal has been an open secret and I'm not one bit surprised. Though I hope to see justice served, I hope the judge will go easy on these clubs as Serie A will be less interesting without the top clubs!!
