It's a month since my last entry and I have been busy with my toastmasters commitment and school work so much that I only went onto sharescan last Sunday. Sharescan pretty much offers the same old serials and movies with the exception of a few new movies. I managed to get wallstreet which I heard was supposed to be good and will be watching it during the festive period. I would strongly recommend the movie Before Sunset, a love story and the entire movie featured just 2 people having a deep, insightful talk. The movie was set in France and I would say the director managed to showcase and portray France well in the movie as it acted as the perfect backdrop for the movie. I can't dare say that the back alley in Deskar or Geylang can be comparable to the French back alleys.
Another movie which I caught at the cinema would be the new Johnny Depp movie, Sweeny Todd. Johnny's acting was superb and unique but the plot was disappointing to the point of being stupid. Our lead character was imprisoned for a wrongdoing which he did not commit and he would come back to London to seek his vengence. It reminds the viewers of a typical Count of MOnte Cristo except in this case , it's a barber and he would kill his customers by slashing his customers' throats after giving them a perfect shave and using their flesh to make meat pies. I can understand the vengence but I can't understand why would he want to kill all his customers. Hello!! Just because you are wronged does not mean that you have to hate the entire human population.
I'm sad that Heath Ledger died 2 weeks ago. For the uninitiated, he was nominated for the supporting actor for Brokeback mountain and he would be playing the Joker in Dark Knight. He was one actor who has gained my respect by playing unconventional roles and does not play the same role more than once, afraid of being streotyped. I read the article on him a week ago and found out that he used to survive on ramen noodles and water and he turned down the offers which he felt would be detrimental and streotypical at a time when he needed the cash. You have earned my respect, Heath. May your soul rest in peace and I would pay tribute to you by watching Dark Knight once it comes out.
