Ms Vasantham

I spent my Sunday fruitfully by watching television programmes and catching up on Ms Vasantham, a beauty pagent show where Indian females will vie for the Ms Vasantham show. I was expecting to see only ten Indian females on the show as Indian females tend to be shy and try to avoid the limelight of beauty pagent due to mostly parental disapproval. I was surprised to see more than 40 females on the show and the show format was similar to Singapore Idol where there will be three judges and the contestants have to go through the preliminary stages.
Every beauty pagent has some controversies and this beauty pagent was no different as some contestants who were attired in traditional gear were booted out of the competition and they felt that the judges were too narrow-minded in their choice of attire as they felt the judges prefer the contestants in modern attire. Firstly, I felt that the traditional attired females would not have pulled off the modern look if she had worn a skirt as I strongly feel that Ms Vasantham should be someone who is versatile and comfortable in wearing both traditional and modern clothes and there were some females who wore traditional attire who got to the next round as the judges and I felt that they can carry off the modern look!!
The judges also gave the thumbs down to skinny and big sized contestants and some of the contestants were unhappy with the judges for judging them based on their appearance. I will agree with the judges that some of the contestants are either thin or big sized and the beauty pagent needed meaty contestants. I wouldn't want to watch a beauty pagent where the females are dull and not attractive but I will appreciate if the judges were more direct with their comments and instead give dubious comments as I felt the judges' comments made the contestants feel uncomfortable. It's never easy to dish out constructive criticism especially when it's going to hurt but I hope to see the judges being more direct(yet sensitive) and constructive with their comments!!
I will be looking forward to the next episode of Ms Vasantham to catch up on some eye-candy, humour, elegance and intelligence from the contestants and I hope the contestants will not disaapoint me!!

Booty Shorts and Passion!!

When I was staying in hall last semester, I used to have dinner at my hall canteen on some occasions(bland hall food) and I noticed a number of instances where girls would be wearing booty shorts to the hall canteen. Booty shorts is a word coined by the famous fashion critic, Inspiraci as the shorts cling to the bottom and is way too short. In some instances, I wonder whether these shorts were boxer-shorts. Why should I complain as it provides some eye-candy and a hot topic to catch up on during lunch time? What I do not understand is why do these girls wear the 'boxer shorts' in full public view for the entire world to comment on their bottom, their choice of shorts and their long flowing legs. I have noticed that heads do turn(duh!!) when these booty shorts girls walk confidently and in some instances nonchalently and I wonder where their confidence came from. I'm surprised and glad that girls nowadays are pushing the limits with their head-turning clothes where it seems to reveal more skin than usual. I applaud these girls for daring to be different and being confident in their skimpy attire!!

I have realised that it's very rare to find a lecturer who is very passionate about the subject they are teaching. I have come across numerous lecturers but they have rarely inspired me to take an active interest in my subject except on two occasions. In my first semester, my Econs lecturer entertained me with her sarcastic humour. I didn't miss any Econs lecture of her as I was not bored with her compared to the other subjects where there was a high chance of me dozing off or leaving early. I had the good fortune of being taught quantam physics and optics by a professor last semester. His enthusiasm was so contagious that I felt interested in the topic. I then realised that there are still a few rare gems who will go the extra mile to make the lesson interesting. I hope to encounter a gem in this semester!!

Tall Girls and Handphones

Asian girls are generally short compared to caucasian girls who are very tall(in the region of 180cm-190). I guess it's the Asian genes which dictate the height or it's just that asian girl happen to be short as God felt that Asian girls need not have to be tall. I understand the need for these girls to wear high heels as they feel they are too short and they need an extra 5cm to boost their height and confidence. Those magical heels certainly helps short girls feel like tall girls(I'm not making fun of short girls).
I was shocked to see a tall girl in the MRT in high heel as she was already tall and she was one head taller than me. I guess Asian guys will be daunted by her high-heeled height as we are already short to begin with compared to our caucasian counterparts. There could be a number of reasons why she was in tall heels. She would have felt in love with the heels the moment she saw it and she couldn't resist the purchase. Her boyfriend is very tall and she doesn't want to look like a dwarf next to him. She likes wearing heels as she think she's short. I hope not to encounter another 'Yao Ming' who want to look taller as I do not want to contemplate going through the possible reasons of her choice of footwear as their height already draws attention to themselves.
I also encountered a male in his late twenties who didn't look local blasting music from his handphone. I'm sure a pair of earphones will come with the handphone package and he should have made full use of it instead of subjecting me and my friends to old Hindi songs. My Punjabi friend was irritated and amused with his song collection and I was laughing. I told her that the guy was trying to impress her with his song collection or trying to look cool with with music blasting from his latest handphone and he ruined his chances by tripping when the train jerked. Let's be considerate and stop subjecting those poor fellow commuters to lousy music or trying to impress the girl next to you as she might feel irritated!!!

Denim Shorts!!

I understand that the hot weather is very unforgiving on some days as you will be perspiring profusely like a running tap and you suddenly realise that that your body has more sweat glands than you would have expected and you just wish it will be windy on these hot days. Therefore, I understand the need for a woman to dress down like wearing a spahaggeti top and short denim shorts on these days as they do not want to further perspire if they wear long sleeve shirt and pants. I'm not against women who wear shorts. In fact, I'm for women who wear denim shorts as I understand the plight they will be in if they are in pants. In reality, the sight will inject some eyecandy and heart-stopping moments in a dull monotonous life. I fully support the denim shorts movement where ladies flaunt their long, never-ending and toned legs and it will provide some talking-point for my lunch or dinner session.
On the other hand, this denim shorts movement has made me ask myself why do girls wear these shorts to a freezing school library or even on a rainy day? There are loads of reasons. 1. The weather suddenly turned bad and it started to rain cats and dogs and girls in D.shorts are caught offguard and freeze their legs off. 2. These ladies need a cool respite from the unforgiving weather. 3. It's comfortable as it needs little ironing. 4. I'm in need of male attention.
However, I feel that on rainy days(started raining from 8am), i have seen some girls come to school in short denim shorts and some D.Shorts girls study in the library for a long period wearing a sweater. I don't think the sweater provide the warmth to the legs as well as I'm still freezing in the library with a jacket pulled over me. Ladies, I understand the hot weather and you can definitely prepare in advance if you see dark clouds looming before you are about to leave your home as I do not want to feel sorry for a D.Shorts girl in a freezing library!!

Music Videos, Tamil Actresses and Actors

A goodlooking girl can make any music video look good irregardless of its quality. The highly popular song, 'Stars are blind' sang by our Paris Hilton is anything but unimpressive and not original as her voice is similar to a certain Lindsay Lohan. However, the music video was raunchy as our Paris Hilton played her sex appeal to the maximum effect by wearing skimpy clothes and was on top of the guy(both are clothed by the way if you are thinking otherwise). It was wise of the music producers and Paris Hilton to captialise on the strengths of Paris as she was already a star after the release of her sex video which propelled her to stardom and they knew the music video will be a talking point even if it's not good.

Another music video which I find extremely dumb is Shakira's Whenever Wherever(WW). I thought it will be as good as Hips Don't Lie as Shakira will be shaking wildly to the beat of the song and plunging the entire world into a frenzy who are bent on getting a slice of Shakira after Hips Don't Lie. WW video started off with Shakira rising from the ocean which made my jaw drop(maybe a bit of exaggeration) and she will be dancing wildly. The midriff-baring top and the tight pants Shakira wore and her seductive dance made my heart skip a beat. Shakira may not be very good-looking but she has that sex-appeal(not bordering on sluttiness) which is celebrated by both men and women.
What do Tamil actresses do when their acting career is nearing the end? Act in melodramatic mega tamil serials which can run into the hundreds of episodes. Tamil actresses have a shorter lifespan compared to their male counterparts in the film industry. The actress might be talented and even beautiful but the fickle male tamil fans want a constant supply of goodlooking girls. They will rather see lots of goodlooking girls come through the cinefield instead of one talented and goodlooking girl dominating the scene. I guess guys feel that the actress ages as the days go by. I was surprised to see Meena, a popular Taml actress acting in a serial as I didn't expect her to venture into serials but I guess she's fighting the likes of Asin, Malavika and gang. I guess the actors, no matter how badlooking they are, they can survive in the movie world as it's a male world!!!
Why do some Tamil actors who are worse than the actress manage to act in a film? Some of these actors are producers' or directors' or a big shot's son. That's why you see some undeserving and ugly actors in Tamil movies! I hope this trend will change for the better of the cineworld as there are more deserving and goodlooking and charismatic actors out there and they shouldn't be overlooked by these white horses where their fathers' money and influence gave them a chance at movies!!

Ceasefire!!

If you have been following the news, Israel has not relented on its pursuit of Hezbollah and it is still bombing Southern Lebanon as they deem Lebanon incapable of destroying Hezbollah, the terrorist organisation which has went on the offensive as well, claiming close to 30 Israeli casualties and Israel is taking matters into its own hands after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soliders. Israel felt that they shouldn't negotiate with the terrorist organization which was demanding release of political prisioners in exchange for the release of the 2 captured soliders. I applaud Israel's decision to not to engage in any negotiations with Hezbollah as the negotiations might spark off more demands and kidnappings by Hezbollah in the future if Israel decides to act soft in the crisis which is highly unlikely considering the fact that Israel went through a few major wars with the Arab coalition in the past and even managed to capture some land.
However, Israel's continued pursuit of Hezbollah by bombing Southern Lebanon was a big no-no as lots of Lebanese civilian lives are lost in the war and Israael's recent air raid on a Lebanese town killed almost 50 civilians. Israel feels the need to defend itself from its volatile and unpredictable neighbours but it doesn't need to engage in such warfare which has lead to international outrage(with the exception of America) and its actions has garnered support for Hezbollah in recent weeks from the Arab community in Middle East.
The first thing that needs to be done is to have a ceasefire as more innocent lives could be saved if an immediate ceasefire was issued by America and the UN. It's an open secret that Israel is dependant on America economically and America could flex its muscles but Mr Bush is unable to do that as we all know that the Jewish lobby is very powerful in America and he might lose their support if he decides to act against Israel which feels that a ceasefire will allow Hezbollah to regroup and become stronger.
Secondly, America and UN have to flex their muscles and force Iran and Syria if they can prove to give up their state funding to Hezbollah as any terrorist organization should be condemned and the escalation of the crisis was due to Hezbollah. I believe Hezbollah does not have the capablity to destroy Israel as Israel's technology is far superior(what do you expect when it comes from Uncle Sam) to that of Hezbollah. The major players like UN, the Security Council and of course, our favourite country, America can't do anything much in this crisis as it is very complicated and the crisis can only end if Israel and Hezbollah stop their offensive on each other and America and UN collectively issue a stern warning(which is unlikely) to Israel if they engage in such warfare and also cut off the fiance links with Hezbollah and make both Lebanon and Israel come to the table table to get things sorted out!! At least, issue the Ceasefire..Dammit!!!!!!
